Social Science: Tikanga-ā-Īwa

Unuhia te rito o te harakeke kei wheat e kōmako e ko?

Whakataerangitia – rere ki uta, rere ki tai;

Ui mai koe ki ahau he aha te mea nui tea ao,

Māku e ki atu he tangata, he tangata, he tangata!

Take away the heart of the flax bush

And where will the kōmako sing?

Proclaim it to the land, proclaim it to the sea,

Ask me what is the greatest thing in the world,

I will reply

It is the people, it is the people, it is the people!

The Social Sciences learning area is wonderfully diverse as we cover the following subjects: Years 9 and 10 Social Studies, Geography, History, Business, Accounting, Economics, Classical Studies and Tourism. Our ultimate aim throughout these varied disciplines is to ensure that our students have the opportunity to be creative, enterprising, inspired and connected. We set high expectations, encouraging all students to develop their own growth mindsets and to be actively involved in their own learning. We believe that the curriculum content that is covered in our classes will engage our students as well as challenge them. We can confidently say that within Social Sciences subjects, students will face new and relevant knowledge and essential skills and experiences which will help them to play a role as informed, confident and responsible citizens in Aotearoa New Zealand.
