Sport

Many sports and physical activities are offered to students at Waitaki Girls’ High School.

We are lucky to have committed teachers, parents and volunteers who coach and manage our sports teams all year round. The school has a proud history of local, South Island and National successes.

Students are encouraged to become involved in a sporting or physical endeavour while at school. It is proven that those involved in sport and physical recreation in their primary and secondary school years are more likely to be active adults which has many benefits to our health and wellbeing.

The school endeavours to offer both competitive and non-competitive options for most sports and activities. This means that some of our competitive teams will travel out of our region for weekly secondary school-specific competitions. This also means we work hard to develop relationships with local community sports and recreation groups, ensuring we can offer a wide range of options to our students even if we are unable to field a team of our own, a common issue for minor sports in a rural area such as the Waitaki region.

For any enquiries regarding sport at Waitaki please contact our Sports Coordinator, Mrs Alicia Jones on ajones@waitakigirlshigh.school.nz
